Eastern Heats Up in Portland for Win

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team picked up a big road victory at Concordia University Saturday, 72-64.

The Mountaineers (14-8) (6-7) were powered by a career-high 21 points from Vintea Georges. The junior was 7 for 9 from the field. Rosebud Guthrie added 16 points, and Kyle Miller and Shaylee Nielsen each scored 10 points. Nielsen grabbed a team-high six rebounds and Miller threw a game-high five assists.

The Cavaliers entered the game receiving votes in the national poll and opened the game with an 11-2 lead after a Courtney May jumper. Eastern responded with a 20-0 run capped by a lay-up from Guthrie. The Mountaineers would never lose the lead, and took their largest lead in the first half after a Nielsen three-pointer gave them a 36-20 advantage with 1:36 remaining in the half. EOU had a 36-21 lead at halftime.

The Mountaineers had a 20-6 advantage on points off of the bench in a first half that features two ties and one lead change. EOU held the Cavaliers to 0-6 shooting from behind the perimeter in the first half, while it shot 4 of 12. Eastern was 46 percent from the field in the first stanza, and CU was 39 percent.

Concordia (16-8) (8-4) was led by Danielle Clauson's game-high 27 points. The senior finished 12 of 23 from the field and grabbed six rebounds. May had a team-high nine rebounds and four assists.

Eastern Oregon finished 47 percent from the field and 6 for 18 from three-point range. The Cavaliers were 42 percent from the field and 3 of 12 from behind the arc. EOU had 13 assists to Concordia's 12. CU committed 16 turnovers to Eastern's 15. The Cavaliers outrebounded Eastern, 34-32. The Mountaineers victory avenged a 93-90 setback at home to CU on Dec. 30.

The Mountaineers return to action Feb. 4 against The College of Idaho (13-10) (8-5). The Lady Yotes defeated Warner Pacific College Friday, 68-57. C of I edged Eastern on Jan. 7 in Caldwell, Idaho, 57-53.
