EUGENE, Ore. -- Jordan Gregg hit a game-winning free throw with no time remaining on the clock to give the No. 13 Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team a 66-65 victory at Northwest Christian University Saturday.

The Mountaineers ended Northwest Christian's red-hot six game win streak. The Beacons knocked off No. 3 Oregon Tech and No. 7 Warner Pacific during the streak, but could not beat the determined 13th ranked Mountaineers. Both teams combined for a total of 45 fouls in the physical and tough battle.

The victory avenged a loss that ended Eastern Oregon's 14-game win streak to end the regular season last year in Eugene. EOU completed a regular season sweep over NCU this season.

Eastern (19-7) (12-4) led by 11 points twice in the game, including with 10:38 remaining in regulation after a three-pointer by Cody Thurmond. The Beacons then went on a 20-9 run over the next eight minutes to even the score at 59 with 2:55 left after a pair of Erik Quick-Warner free throws.

A lay-up by Ben Voogd gave NCU its first lead on the Beacons' next possession. The game went back-and forth for the final two minutes of play with the lead never getting larger than two points. Eastern took a two-point lead after Dan Stafford free throws with 53 seconds left, but Voogd responded with a beautiful runner with 44 seconds left.

Gregg then made one of two free throws with 27 seconds left to give EOU a 65-64 lead. Voogd then drove to the hoop and got fouled with nine seconds left. The senior made the first the first free throw, but missed the second. Stafford then drove to the basket, had his shot blocked out of bounds, and Eastern retained possession. Gregg caught an inbounds pass and was fouled on his shot attempt as time expired.

Eastern Oregon finished 14 of 20 from the free throw line, and NCU made 26 of its 35 free throw attempts. The Mountaineers committed a season-high 21 turnovers, and forced 15 Beacon turnovers. EOU shot 47 percent from the field, compared to Northwest Christian's 40 percent.

The Mountaineers improved to 12-0 when holding opponents under 70 points this season. Gregg led EOU with 16 points. Josh Cottle added 13 points, and Stafford had 12. Voogd had a game-high 20 points to lead Northwest Christian. Quentin Guidry chipped in 13, Quick-Warner finished with 12, and Andrew Miller had 10.

The Beacons host Corban College Friday in Eugene. The Warriors fell to The College of Idaho Saturday, 70-58. Eastern Oregon host Northwest University Friday. The Eagles defeated EOU in overtime in Kirkland on Dec. 5, 2009, earlier this season. Friday will be "Wear Pink, Get Aware" in Quinn Coliseum. The Pink Zone returns and fans are encouraged to wear pink. The first 100 students receive a free "Wear Pink, Get Aware" T-Shirt. The game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
