Yotes End Eastern's Season

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team dropped it's final regular season game to The College of Idaho Saturday, 2-1.

Eastern (4-8-1) (4-5-0) had a chance at making the postseason for only the second time in school history, but needed a win and a pair of wins from Corban University and Concordia University in other Cascade Collegiate Conference games.

"We had them," EOU head coach Keith Scarlett said. "We were right there with them. We had the lead, but just couldn't hold on."

The Mountaineers had their opportunities with The College of Idaho. EOU shot 13 times, putting six on the net. Mauriana Gonzalez broke a scoreless game open when she found the net in the 79th minute. Lauren Robideau was credited with the assist.

It took only three minutes for the Lady Yotes to match the goal. Sarah Hicks took an Erika Mouritsen pass and found the back of the Eastern net in the 82nd minute. Hicks would score the game winner in the 86th minute with a Kirsten Olson assist.

The College of Idaho (10-7) (6-3) took 18 shots and had seven on the goal. The Yotes took eight corner kicks to Eastern Oregon's three. Gonzalez took a match-high six shots, and C of I had four players that took three shots.

"We fought and played well but came up short. We'll learn from this loss
and only get better as we move forward," Eastern's Jordann Whitehurst said.

The teams battled in 39-degree, rainy weather Saturday. EOU's Chantal Schefers and Melissa Holmes of The College of Idaho each had five saves in the game. The Mountaineers honored Kami Hernandez who played in her final game on Senior Day in La Grande. The Yotes will travel to Concordia University in the semifinals of the Cascade Conference tournament on Nov. 6.
