BOX SCORE
EUGENE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team picked up a key victory at Northwest Christian University Friday, 3-0.
Amanda Swenson,
Lauren Robideau, and
Katie Yarnell all found the net for the Mountaineers (4-6-1) (4-3-1), and
Chantal Schefers was credited with the shutout.
"As a coach, you always hope you have momentum. Having success on the road with a lot at stake and playing on an unusual surface is exactly what the Cascade Conference is all about," EOU head coach Keith Scarlett said.
"I think we played a lot crisper today. We had to get some things worked out, in terms of the way the ball would move and all in the beginning, but we adjusted quickly and played quite well."
The game was scoreless until the 42nd minute when
Kami Hernandez found Robideau for a strike that hit Northwest Christian goalkeeper, Ali Foster, and went into the back of the net. EOU took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, the Mountaineers found the net again. Swenson tapped in a corner kick for the second Eastern goal in the 58th minute. Hernandez and
Katie Yarnell each were credited with an assist.
Yarnell added the clincher in the 64th minute. Kuust provided a cross into the box and Yarnell put it in the net.
Eastern had 17 shots in the game, compared to the Beacons nine. The Mountaineers put 11 of those shots on the net, and NCU had five shots on goal. EOU took a pair of corner kicks and Northwest Christian (4-9-1) (1-5) took one. Schefers made eight saves in the win, and Foster made seven.
"We adapted to the turf and being on the road well and capitalized on our opportunities," Eastern's
Erika Whitehurst said.
The Mountaineers travel to Salem, Ore. to play Corban University Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The Warriors (12-3) (4-2) beat The College of Idaho Friday, 1-0.
