LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Warner Pacific College Saturday.
Lauren Robideau scored a pair of goals in the first six minutes of play to give the Mountaineers (1-4-1) the conference victory.
“It's always great to gut out a win on a Saturday of conference play, especially after playing the day before and having faced an opponent that will just wear you down the way Concordia will,” EOU head coach Keith Scarlett said. “We're going to have to work on finishing our opportunities but it was a good team effort and we're happy to come away with the win.”
The Mountaineers took 28 shots in the game, putting 14 on the net. Warner Pacific finished with 15 shots and had three shots on goal. Each team had one corner kick in the match.
Nikita Rivera made a dozen saves for the Knights (1-6-2) (0-2).
Chantal Schefers made three saves for Eastern. Brittany Johnson took a team-high four shots for WPC, while
Mauriana Gonzalez took eight shots for EOU, putting four on the net.
"We possessed; we took shots; we played as a team,” the Mountaineers'
Michelle Mudder said. “Our passing to feet and communication really helped us get the win. We played EOU soccer."
Eastern travels to The Evergreen State College Friday for a 1 p.m. first kick in Olympia, Wash. Warner Pacific travels to Corban University for its match Friday.
