Mountaineer Men Bounce Back Against SOU

Eastern Oregon gets back into win column with a road victory in Ashland

ASHLAND, Ore. -- Jordan Gregg recorded his 14th career double-double in a 75-57 Eastern Oregon University men's basketball victory at Southern Oregon Saturday.

Gregg scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Mountaineer road win. Eastern (15-6) (8-3) bounced back after falling at Oregon Tech Friday. The win also avenged a loss in Ashland last season when EOU was ranked No. 5 in the country.

Josh Cottle scored a game-high 18 points for No. 18 Eastern Oregon (15-6) (8-3). Dan Stafford finished 17 points for EOU. Josh Landsverk scored 16 points.

The Mountaineers shot 53 percent from the field, but 25 percent from behind the perimeter. Eastern's defense held the Raiders to 39 percent from the floor and 29 percent from three-point range. EOU forced 11 turnovers and committed 12. The Mountaineers outrebounded SOU, 36-24.

Humphrey Jackson led Southern (10-10) (2-9) with 13 points, Drew Herrera and David Grant each added 11 points.

Eastern Oregon used a 17-2 first half run to breakaway from the Raiders, after an 18-18 tie. Southern Oregon did make a run in the second half, cutting the lead to single digits twice, but couldn't get any closer.

Eastern Oregon hosts No. 6 Warner Pacific (16-4) (8-2) Friday night in La Grande. The Knights handed the Mountaineers' one of its three conference losses on Dec. 31, 2009. EOU, No. 21 at the time, led at halftime by four points over then-ranke No. 9 WPC. Warner Pacific used a 13-0 run, that was stretched to 25-5, early in the second half to pull away.

It will also be “Pack the Gym” night at EOU. Fans who arrive in the first half of the women's game can get a general admission ticket for $1. The first 100 students through the door receive a free “Wear White Get Loud” T-Shirt. It's White Out night at Quinn Coliseum.
