Hope International trips Mountaineers

Eastern ends California trip with a pair of losses

EOUatHIU
FULLERTON, Calif. -- The Eastern Oregon University soccer team fell at Hope International University Wednesday afternoon, 4-0.

The Mountaineers mustered three shots on goal during the loss. The Royals made four goals off of 12 shots on the net. HIU had a total of 18 shots and EOU's three shots on goal were its only shots all game.

"I am disappointed to leave with a pair of losses," Eastern Oregon head coach Jessy Watson said. "But I think we learned a lot and take home a lot of experience after playing two very talented teams. I think our girls gained some confidence here and are ready to get into conference play."

Hope International's Harmony Pruett converted on a chance 35 yards away from the net 25 minutes into the game. Pruett attacked Eastern's goalkeeper, Alison Seymour, and deflected a Seymour clearance off a couple of Mountaineer defenders and it skirted into the net.

A minute before halftime Leslie White scored the Royals' second goal. White took a pass from Marissa Hand and put it into the back of the EOU net.

In the 60th minute Shanell Thomas headed a Kristen Enriquez past Seymour and put HIU up 3-0. Seven minutes later Allyson Hinkle lofted a ball beautifully over the EOU defense and goalkeeper from 35 yards out for the game's final goal.

Eastern Oregon returns home Thursday and hosts Northwest University Sept. 25 for its next game.
