Eastern Volleyball Sweeps Through Spokane

EOU wins a pair of matches in a single day

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team won a scrimmage at Spokane Falls Community College and a regular season match over Whitworth University Tuesday.

The Mountaineers began the day by defeating Spokane Falls Community College in four games. Kaitlyn Duncan had 18 digs, Lisa Steinbach finished with six kills and nine blocks and Grace Deboodt added 12 kills and four digs. Jessica Lea had a team-high 16 assists along with 17 digs and five kills.

"Spokane Falls had some great players that we can definitely look at in the next couple of years," EOU head coach Kaki Morehead said.

Eastern continued its success in the Lilac City with a victory over NCAA Div. 3 opponent, Whitworth. The Mountaineers swept the Pirates in three games, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-20.

"Our girls played very well against Whitworth," Morehead said. "I thought our serve/receive execution was very good. Our defense was really strong today which was very nice to see."

Deboodt had a match-high 15 kills and 11 digs against the Pirates. Lea had a match-high 22 assists and added 11 digs. Duncan finished with 11 digs.

Eastern Oregon travels to Corban College Friday in the 2009 Cascade Collegiate Conference opener. The Mountaineers host Southern Oregon Sept. 11 in their next home match.
