Eastern Drops a Pair in California

EOU volleyball hangs tough with top ranked competition

After winning its first match of the season the Eastern Oregon University volleyball team surrendered a pair of losses to the nation's second ranked team, Concordia (Calif.) and No. 20 Biola (Calif.).

"It was a good day and a great experience that we learned a lot from," EOU head coach Kaki McLean said after Friday's loss to Concordia. "We are looking forward to tomorrow and the teams that we will face."

The Mountaineers hung with No. 2 Concordia in the first game before falling, 25-19. The Eagles proved their ranking in the second game cruising to a 25-10 victory. Eastern went back-and-forth in Game 3 and once again fell to a late rally, 25-18.

Biola University handed Eastern Oregon its second loss Saturday morning. The Eagles took advantage of a tired Mountaineer group and swept the match, 3-0.

EOU will attempt to bounce back this afternoon at 3:45 against the host team of the tournament, Azusa Pacific University. APU is 3-0 and ranked fourth in the country. It will be the final game of the classic for the Mountaineers.
