DILLON, Mont. -- The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team fell at Montana Western Thursday night, 78-76.
The Mountaineers led by as many as 16 points in the second half, 52-36, and had a seven point halftime lead, but could not hold off a Bulldog rally. Troy Glaus and Cody Thueringer hit key deep shots for UMW near the end of the game to help the Bulldog rally.
Eastern Oregon led 66-56 after a pair of free throws by
Jacques Wilson with 5:48 remaining in regulation. Western then went on a 17-6 run to take its first lead of the game with 1:18 left in the game.
Dan Stafford scored two of his team-high 18 points with nine seconds remaining to tie the score at 76. Glaus then scored the game winning basket with three seconds left.
Glaus finished with a game-high 24 points.
Jordan Gregg had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers.
NAIA Div. 1, Montana Western, won its sixth straight game and improved to 7-1 on the season. Eastern Oregon (3-2) dropped a game after two consecutive victories.
It was a chance for redemption for EOU as the Mountaineers fell Nov. 6 in La Grande to Montana Western, 77-61. It was the first of three games in three days in Big Sky Country for Eastern. Friday Eastern Oregon plays the first game at the Copper Cage Classic at 6 p.m. MST against Montana State-Northern. EOU plays Montana Tech at 8 p.m. MST on Saturday.
