Eastern Oregon Eases Past Walla Walla

Mountaineer men's basketball cruises past Wolves

The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team eased past Walla Walla University Thursday night, 83-55.

After defeating the Wolves 103-67 on Oct. 27 in Hermiston, Ore., the Mountaineers had little trouble weeks later in College Place, Wash. Eastern Oregon jumped out to a 19-0 lead to begin the game. WWU (2-3) scored their first basket with a Tristan Edwards three-pointer with 11:37 remaining in the first half.

Edwards led Walla Walla with 15 points, all in the first half. He made four of his first five three-point shots. Gerard Dauphin scored 14 points for WWU, and Mark Moore added 13.

Jordan Gregg led the way for the Mountaineers (3-1). The senior finished with a double-double, 25 points and 12 rebounds. The Lewiston, Idaho, native made 10 of his 16 attempts from the field.

Eastern Oregon shot 47 percent from the field in the victory. EOU was 8 for 16 from behind the arc in the first half, but 0 for 6 in the second. The Mountaineers were 15 for 19 from the free-throw line.

Jacques Wilson scored 16 points for EOU. The senior transfer made three three-pointers in the win. Dan Stafford and Cody Thurmond added 13 points and 12 points for the Mountaineers. Head Coach Isaac Williams was able to give 11 players game experience.

Eastern Oregon will now wait a week before its next game at Montana Western next Thursday. The Bulldogs defeated EOU in La Grande in the Aramark Quinn Classic on Nov. 6, 77-61.
