Eastern Falls to Corban in La Grande

Warriors win a battle versus the Mountaineers and weather

LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Corban College soccer team defeated two difficult opponents Friday afternoon in La Grande, Eastern Oregon University and the thermometer.

The Warriors (6-5-2) (3-1-0) took a total of 26 shots, a season high, and made five. Eastern Oregon found the back of the net twice in the 5-2 loss. The Mountaineers took four shots on goal and eight shots total. Corban kept EOU's goalkeeper, Alison Seymour, busy with 12 shots on goal.

Seymour, a junior from Spokane, made seven saves in the contest. Corban's Jennifer Bassett made two saves. The Warriors led 3-1 at halftime after 12 shots in the first half, compared to EOU's three shots.

The Mountaineers had a great start when Courtney Gaskell knocked in Lauren Robideau rebound in the sixth minute. The Warriors and Emily Tsugawa would strike seven minutes later. Tsugawa made her first of a pair of first half goals in the 13th minute. She took six shots, four on goal, in the game. Allison Knotts assisted Tsugawa's second goal in the 33rd minute of play.

Three minutes Corban's Marissa Walter capped off a beautiful counter-attack with an unassisted goal just before halftime. Robideau made the game a little more interesting with a goal in the 53rd minute. Gaskell found Robideau with a great assist.

The Warriors' Kacie Emerick and Rachel Cole highlighted the 62nd and 69th minutes. Emerick found Cole on a pair of goals that sealed the key road victory for Corban.

The Warriors jump ahead of the Mountaineers in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings with the win with four games remaining in the regular season. Eastern (3-6) (3-2) hosts Northwest Christian Saturday in its final home contest of the regular season. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
