ASHLAND, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team dropped its first conference game Saturday at Southern Oregon University, 4-0.
“We did not show up ready to play mentally,” EOU head coach Jessy Watson said. “Southern played well. They controlled not only the ball but the game as well.”
The Raiders entered the match on a two-game losing streak while the Mountaineers came in winning three straight to open the conference schedule. SOU moves to 3-7-1 overall and 1-2 in the CCC. EOU dropped to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Southern scored its first goal in the first minute of play off of a free-kick from Tori Chambliss. The score remained 1-0 into the second half when the Raiders scored a trio of goals in a 20-minute span.
Southern's Alexis Mahoney scored a pair of goals within nine minutes of each other. Stacy Szeto added the Raiders' final goal putting the match out of reach.
SOU finished with 25 shots, 18 on goal.
The Mountaineers' return to La Grande and host Corban and Northwest Christian Oct. 9 and 10 in their final two home games of the regular season.
