Sam Ghrist became the Coordinator of Business Affairs in 2005 and serves as the head statistician for EOU Athletics. He served as the Mountaineers' Sports Information Director for 16 years prior to assuming his new position.

As the Coordinator for Business Affairs, Ghrist is responsible for all fiscal activities for the department including; monitoring budgets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants and contracts, travel, and athletic aid distribution. As a statistician, Ghrist handles live stats responsibilities for all home EOU football, volleyball, men's & women's basketball games, and track & field. He also helps with men's & women's soccer, baseball, and softball.

Ghrist continues his role as Sports Information Director for the Cascade Collegiate Conference and for the NAIA Region I. At the national level, Ghrist has served as the Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship statistical coordinator since 2002 and has served as the media coordinator for the NAIA World Series since 2001. During his time as the SID at Eastern, Ghrist was named the CCC SID of the Year for his work in the 2003-04 academic year.

He also serves as an officer on the NAIA-SIDA Board of Directors and has chaired the computer committee, web-site contest committee, and is a member of the honors committee. The honors committee is comprised of seven SID’s around the country that vote on players of the week in volleyball, soccer, football, basketball, baseball and softball.

Ghrist is active in officiating in Union County and is an avid bowler. Sam has rolled a combined five perfect 300 games and has competed at the regional and national bowling tournaments. He is a 1991 graduate of EOU with a degree in Accounting and is the proud father of daughter Samantha.
