Coach Bob

Bob Heitstuman

Assistant Coach | 13th Season

Bob Heistuman enters his 13th year coaching at Eastern Oregon University in 2025–26. A former standout pole vaulter himself, Heistuman has built a reputation as one of the top vault coaches in the Northwest and continues to play a major role in the success of EOU’s Track & Field program.

Since joining the Mountaineers in 2013, Heistuman has coached five National Champions, 23 All-Americans, and five Conference Champions in the pole vault. His impact on the vault community extends far beyond EOU—he remains the La Grande High School pole vault record holder after clearing over 15 feet, a mark that has stood as a local standard for decades.

Before his time at Eastern Oregon, Heistuman coached with the Raising The Bar Track Club in the Springfield/Eugene area from 2000 to 2012, where he developed eight Oregon State Champion pole vaulters.

As an athlete, Heistuman vaulted collegiately for the University of Oregon, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1991.

A native of La Grande, Oregon, Heistuman continues to serve the local community as the owner of La Grande Millwork LLC. He and his wife, Kimberley, have five grandchildren.
