Justin Wagar

Justin Wagar became the head women's soccer coach in 2015 and established one of the biggest turnarounds in the country.

In his first season at EOU, Wagar coached the Mountaineers to their best season in program history and broke 17 school records. After EOU collected just three wins in 2014, Wagar directed the squad to a 17-win season in 2015. The team smashed numerous records and also clinched its first national tournament bid in school history. With a 17-3-1 record, EOU posted the third-best defense in the nation with 14 shutouts, as well as the 14th-best offense in the nation with 65 goals on the year.

Prior to coming to EOU, Wagar tallied 12 years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I and Division II levels. In 10 of the 12 years, he served as the head coach and logged an overall record of 102-78-14. In the process, Wagar earned eight playoff bids in nine seasons.

From 2009-14, Wagar served at the helm of New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU). Within two years, Wagar took a team from 13-straight losing seasons to a 12-win campaign that featured a trip to the NCAA tournament. He helped the Cowgirls break every record in the program’s 17-year soccer history, including records for most goals, wins, winning percentage, attendance per game, and the first-ever playoff victory. At the end of the season, Wagar was named the RMAC Coach of the Year. In addition to coaching 18 all-conference players and the program’s first-ever All-American, Wagar led NMHU to five-straight seasons with the team grade-point average above 3.0 and saw two student-athletes earn Student of the Year honors. He left NMHU as the winningest coach in program history.

Prior to his time at NMHU, Wagar served as an assistant coach for NCAA Division I Eastern Washington University after spending two seasons at Brigham Young University-Hawaii. At BYU-Hawaii, Wagar was asked to build a program from scratch and was able to lead the inaugural squad to a 12-4 record and a second-place finish in the Pacific West Conference. That same season, BYU-Hawaii recorded the 15th-best scoring offense in the nation among NCAA Division II squads and the 22nd-toughest defense in the country. In 2007, the Seasiders claimed the conference championship with a 10-2 league record and finished 13-6-1 overall. Wagar was selected as the Pacific West Conference Coach of the Year.

Before taking over BYU-Hawaii, Wagar coached for Utah Valley University for two and a half years before stepping in as their interim head coach in 2005. In his first stint as a head coach, Wagar led the team to a first-place seed in the United Soccer Conference Tournament (USC). He mentored seven scoring crown winners and four All-American strikers, and he also coached four top-25 offenses and three nationally-ranked defenses.

Wagar played collegiately at the NCAA Division II level for BYU-Hawaii from 1998-99, where he captained the team as a sweeper to its most successful season in school history. After his playing career ended, Wagar led the Utah Olympic Development Program select team to its first-ever West Coast title and a third-place finish at Florida’s ODP National Tournament in 2005.

From 2004-05, Wagar played collegiate club soccer at Utah Valley University and led the squad to a No. 2 national ranking. He ultimately earned All-America honors as a defender.

A native of Kennewick, Wash., Wagar graduated from BYU-Hawaii in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. He and his wife, Jamae Feddock, have a three-year old daughter, Isabelle Marie, and a newborn son, Grayson Michael.
