Betsy Westermann

Betsy Westermann became the head softball coach at EOU in 2014. 

During the 2016 campaign, Westermann led EOU to an overall record of 29-23, including a 6-6 mark in CCC East Division play. The Mountaineers went 11-3 at home, five of which were shutout victories. For the first time since 2005, EOU posted a winning record, as well as its first 20-win season in eight years. In addition, the Mountaineers ended a 16-year absence from the NAIA National Tournament after defeating Great Falls in the semifinals of the 2016 CCC Tournament.

"We made an incredible run [in 2016] which was extremely exciting," said Westermann. "It was a journey of extreme highs and lows, and knowing that this team was there to support each other throughout the whole season played a vital role in ending the drought. Also, having two assistants who played large roles and utilized their abilities was key to our success."

During her first season at EOU, Westermann led the Mountaineers to a 17-23 overall record and notched two all-conference players and one NFCA NAIA All-Region selection. The Mountaineers also saw five student-athletes garner U.S. Bank Academic All-CCC honors.
 
Prior to EOU, Westermann spent one year as an assistant voach at Dakota State University in Madison, S.D. While at Dakota State, Westermann held a variety of roles. She was the head defensive coach, academic supervisor, recruiting coordinator, head newsletter creator/editor, and head field maintenance. Westermann was also in charge of inventory.

Before joining the Dakota State staff, Westermann spent four months at Black Hills State University as an assistant coach. During her time with the Yellow Jackets, she developed weekly strength and running workouts, infield and outfield drills, and recruiting spreadsheets.

Westermann also spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Northern State University. While at Northern State, Westermann was the assistant infield and hitting coaching an the assistant fundraising coordinator. In addition to supervising infield and outfield drills, she analyzed hitting film for the squad. 

She has worked a variety of softball camps ranging from Triple Crown Camps to camps at her previous universities. Westermann was responsible for coordinating drills, correcting different techniques of athletes, and running games and scrimmages.

While attending Jamestown College, Westermann was a three-year starter as an infielder for the Jimmies. During her senior year, she mustered all-conference honors and gold glove plaudits for her play at second base.

Westermann is a native of Duvall, Wash., and earned her bachelor's degree in physical education from Jamestown. She later earned her Master of Science in Health and Physical Education from Northern State University.
