Joe Brogdon enters his 11th year as a volunteer coach for the Eastern Oregon Track & Field team in 2021-22. Brogdon predominantly works with the javelin throwers and will begin his 46th year coaching overall, beginning in 1975.

After retiring from La Grande High School, Brogdon started helping out the EOU pole vault coach. Then in the 2013-14 school year, Brogdon took over as the javelin coach when more javelin throwers joined the program.Â

Brogdon coached national champion Pancho Saldana in 2017 in the javelin when Saldana set the school record mark of 221-5. He also worked with national champion pole vaulters Shawn Tremble, Robbie Haynie, and Tali Fagen. He has coached 19 national qualifiers in the javelin: one in 2015, four in 2016, four in 2017, two in 2018, four in 2019, and four in 2021. hH has helped produce a All-American javelin throw every year since 2016, with two coming in the 2021 season
Brogdon graduated from the University of Idaho in 1974, competing for the Vandal track & field squad from 1971-74 as a javelin thrower and pole vaulter. He also competed for two years at Chaffey College in Southern California.
