Assistant Coach | 5th Season
Rebecca Rhodes enters her fifth season as the top assistant coach for EOU Track & Field. She joined the Mountaineers ahead of the 2017-18 indoor/outdoor season in August and has been an instrumental part of Eastern Oregon’s recent success.
Since her time at Eastern Oregon University, there have been exactly 100 new top-10 marks across the indoor and outdoor record books in her coaching event areas. Among these marks there have been 14 new school records, 36 National Qualifiers, and 11 All-American honors across the speed and power events. Rhodes has been named Indoor West Region Assistant Women’s Coach of the Year twice (2018-19, 2020-21) and in 2019-20 she was named Indoor West Region Assistant Coach of the Year for both the men and women.
Rhodes came to EOU after a successful three-year stint in Pennsylvania, most recently at Misericordia in Dallas, Penn. During her time at Misericordia, Rhodes coached one NCAA Division III National Champion in Juwan Pettis-Jackson, who captured the indoor 200-meter title. Rhodes also coached two national Runner-Up’s in Oniesha Clarke (outdoor 100-meter dash, 11.64) and Reilly Wagner (indoor pentathlon, 3456 points), along with a third-place finish by Clarke in the indoor 60-meter dash (7.63). In total, Rhodes' athletes at Misericordia achieved 11 NCAA Division III All-American honors and broke school records 21 times, including nearly all of the short sprint and hurdle records. Rhodes’ other duties at MU included strength programs and recruiting.
Prior to Misericordia, Rhodes served as the Assistant Track & Field Coach at Moravian College in 2014-15 in Bethlehem, Penn. At Moravian, she coached one school record holder, one NCAA Division III national qualifier and seven conference champions.
Rhodes got her collegiate coaching career started at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. Rhodes coached there from the fall of 2012 to the spring of 2014 as an assistant track & field coach. In that time, she was instrumental in helping Lane win four conference track & field championships and coaching Kara Hollack to the school record in the 100-merter hurdles (14.16), Sean Mcgentrick to the school record in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.37), and Jalen Tims to the 400-meter hurdles record (1:02.01).
As a student-athlete, Rhodes competed at the University of Oregon and was a two-time Pac-12 scorer for the Ducks and qualified for the NCAA West Region meet as well. She graduated from Oregon with her Bachelor of Science degree and received her MBA with a concentration in Sports Management during her time at Misericordia University. When Rhodes graduated, she was on the Oregon top-10 all-time list in the 60-meter hurdles, indoor long jump, 100-meter hurdles and outdoor long jump.
Rhodes has completed the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) certification program in Combined Events and Strength and Conditioning certification that was taught by Boo Schexnayder and has a USA Track & Field certification level one and level two in Jumps that was taught by Jeremy Fisher.
