PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Eastern Oregon No.25 Men's Wrestling capped off a successful Arizona trip with a hard-fought 27-24 dual victory over No.9 Embry-Riddle on Saturday night. Despite splitting the dual with five wins and five losses, the Mountaineers' ability to generate bonus points proved decisive.
The Mountaineers got off to a fast start at 125 pounds as Jack Eylar delivered a fall at the five-minute mark over Jaren Kimura to put EOU on the board early. The Eagles responded at 133, with Landon Smith defeating No. 13
Braden Carson, keeping the dual tightly contested.
The Mountaineers then seized momentum across the middle weights. At 141,
Daniel Guerrero dominated Pedro Mendoza with a 20-3 technical fall, followed by No. 21
Eric Larwin's 20-4 technical fall over Axel Esparza at 149. Adding to the run, No. 24
Carlos Valdez delivered a quick pin just 28 seconds into the first period against Parker Buhr.
Embry-Riddle answered back with wins at 165 and 174, as No. 12 Jayden Luttrell pinned
John Rudebaugh, and No. 3 Daniil Gorschkov earned a technical fall over
Wylee Lindeen.
Eastern Oregon picked up its final victory of the night at 184, where
Kylan Guerra posted a dominant 15-0 technical fall in the first period over Tauataina Tuikolongahau. The Eagles closed the dual with victories at 197 and heavyweight, as No. 9 Trenton Blomquist earned a major decision over
Eric Karas, and No. 5 Kenneth Copley defeated No. 13
Nico Rodriguez.
In the end, Eastern Oregon's two pins and three technical falls outpaced Embry-Riddle's efforts, ultimately securing the Mountaineers a narrow but well-earned 27-24 victory.
The Mountaineers will return to action Friday February 6, traveling to Springfield, Oregon to face Southern Oregon in the final dual of the season before the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament. The dual is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
