Eastern Oregon Men's Basketball Falls to Southern Oregon in CCC Quarterfinals

ASHLAND, Ore. – Eastern Oregon men's basketball saw its Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament run come to an end Tuesday night, as the No. 5-seeded Mountaineers fell 80-70 to No. 4-seeded Southern Oregon in the quarterfinal round at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Despite holding a six-point halftime lead, EOU struggled offensively in the second half, shooting just 31.6% from the field while being outscored 43-27 after the break. Southern Oregon capitalized on a standout performance from Elijah Jackson, who poured in a game-high 29 points on 12-of-15 shooting to lead the Raiders to victory. Jackson was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range and added four rebounds and four assists.

The Mountaineers were led by TJ Doman, who finished with 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Garrett Hawkes recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards, while Malachi Afework and Logan Orchard each contributed 11 points. However, EOU struggled from beyond the arc in the second half, connecting on just one of 11 three-point attempts after hitting five in the opening period.

Southern Oregon gained the edge on the boards, outrebounding the Mountaineers 48-37, including a 16-11 advantage on the offensive glass. The Raiders also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 21 points off giveaways compared to just 11 for EOU.

Eastern Oregon set the tone early, taking a 43-37 lead into halftime behind a balanced scoring effort. Doman and Hawkes each had strong starts, while the Mountaineers knocked down 62.5% of their three-point attempts in the first 20 minutes. However, the second half saw Southern Oregon take control, with Jackson and Brady Rice delivering key buckets down the stretch.

The Mountaineers conclude the 2024-25 season with an 18-11 overall record, including a 13-9 mark in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The NAIA Selection Show is set for 7 p.m. on March 6, with teams awaiting at-large bid selections.
