LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon junior defensive back Jason Grant has been named the Erck Hotels / Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance in the Mountaineers' 23-20 road victory over Rocky Mountain College on Saturday.
Grant, a native of Toppenish, Washington, tallied nine tackles (five solo, four assists), forced one fumble, and recorded a critical interception at the goal line to secure the win for EOU. With the Battlin' Bears threatening to take the lead late in the game, Grant's interception stopped Rocky Mountain in its tracks, allowing the Mountaineers to run out the clock and seal the victory.
This is Grant's second career Frontier Conference Player of the Week award. He previously earned the honor last season after recording 15 tackles and an interception, also against Rocky Mountain.
Grant's efforts helped the Mountaineers improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in Frontier Conference play. Eastern Oregon will aim to build on their momentum next weekend as they travel to Glendale to face Arizona Christian, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
