GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Mountaineers exploded for 545 yards of total offense in a commanding victory over Arizona Christian on Saturday, securing a 48-22 win at ACU Football Field.
Arizona Christian held a slim 10-7 lead after the first quarter, but Eastern Oregon responded in the second with a 30-yard touchdown run by quarterback Quincy Glasper, followed by a 41-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Spurrier. Glasper added a 1-yard rushing touchdown before halftime, giving EOU a 28-17 lead.
In the second half, EOU extended its lead as Glasper connected with Spurrier again on a 45-yard touchdown and later found Tanner Sweek for a 48-yard score. Waylon Riedel capped the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Glasper led the Mounties' offense, throwing for 359 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 93 yards and two scores. Spurrier caught six passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns, while Sweek added 74 yards and a score.
EOU's defense held Arizona Christian to just 92 rushing yards and limited the Firestorm to field goals in the second half. Jason Grant led EOU with 11 tackles, and Blaine Shaw contributed eight tackles and a forced fumble.
Johnny Herrera led the Firestorm with 188 passing yards, though he threw one interception. Charles Ennis Jr. added a team-high 77 rushing yards and one touchdown.
With the victory, Eastern Oregon improves to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in Frontier Conference play. The Mountaineers will return home next week to face Montana State University-Northern on Saturday for their homecoming game at 1:00 p.m.
