Budapest - Following a successful protest by Updike and Team USA, Isaac Updike has been successfully reinstated and will compete in the steeplechase final. The former Eastern Oregon athlete stumbled in a packed final water jump, jeopardizing his chance for a spot in the final of the 2023 Worlds Track and Field Championships.
Updike details how he tripped from behind, falling from sixth place all the way to eleventh before crossing the finish line. "I was in fifth or six most of the race and after the last water pit turning to 100 meters to go, I don't know who tripped me but someone from behind just hit my right leg, kicked my left leg," recalled Updike. "Obviously that sucks, but you just roll with the punches."
Updike will have chance to put a full performance together in the Worlds Final set to begin on Tuesday, August 22nd, at 2:42 p.m. Pacific time.
