Mounties in 13th Place After Day One

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - Eastern Oregon was back in action Friday as they traveled to Jamestown, N.D. to compete in the 2023 Women's NAIA National Championships. EOU had eight wrestlers compete for the National Tournament, after day one, Eastern sits in 13th place as a team and four Mounties remain in the running for placements.

After the first day of competition, Erin Redford of the 136 pound weight class is in the race for third place. Redford went 2-1 on the day, winning her first match over Midland's Ashlee Palimo'o by a score of 10-0. Redford then dropped her next match to Mea Mohler of Texas Wesleyan by a score of 13-3. Entering the consolation bracket, Redford bounced back from the loss in a matchup against Campbellsville's Taylor Howell. Redford took the match in a 5-2 decision leading to a consolation quarterfinal match up with Paige Respicio of the University Of Providence.

Also still competing for a spot on the podium is 130-pounder Kaylee Moore. Moore started the day off with an 8-4 victory over Midland's Emily Paulino. She dropped her next match in the Round of 16 to Waipuilani Estrella-beauchamp of the University of Providence (6-2). The senior responded well picking up a back-to-back victories over Iowa Wesleyan's Joanna Vanderwood and Indiana Tech's Charmayne Delong to finish out the day. Moore will return to action still in the running for a third place finish tomorrow taking on Grandview's Andrea Schlabach.

Liv Wieber of the 143 pound class is also in the running for third place after day one. Wieber went 2-2 on the day, after dropping her first match to Isabelle Hawley of Iowa Wesleyan by 6-2 decision, Wieber bounced back taking her match against Niah Smith of Waldorf 10-0. Wieber then took her next match handily over Livia Swift of Ottawa by 10-3 decision before dropping her final match of the day to Aevri Ciha of Doane by 7-0 decision. Weiber will take on Josette Partney of Missouri Baptist in the consolation bracket quarterfinals to kick off day 2.

The final Mountie to finish day one in the running for placements was Olivia Robinson of the 170 pound weight class. Robinson went 4-1 on the day, winning her first match over William Penn's Kylee Eastwood by 6-0 decision. Robinson dropped her next match to Iowa Wesleyan's America Lopez by 2-1 decision. Robinson bounced back in a big way finishing her day with three straight wins in the consolation bracket. The first came over Natalie Bryant of Jarvis Christian by a score of 10-0, next Robinson cruised to an 11-0 victory over Catherine McNulty of Indiana Tech. Robinson finished out day one with 6-4 decision victory over Bo Geibe of Siena Heights leading to a consolation quarterfinal match up with Grand View's Shenita Lawson.

EOU will be back in action Saturday Mar. 11 as they compete in day two of the 2023 NAIA Women's National Championships.
