Mounties Fall to Knights in Overtime

PORTLAND, Ore. – Just a night after winning on a buzzer beater, the Mounties fell short in an overtime heartbreaker to the Warner Pacific University Knights. Warner Pacific came from behind to take the game into overtime then completed the comeback picking up an 81-78 victory over the Mounties. The loss drops the Mounties to 15-8 overall and 12-5 in conference play.

Eastern relied on their sharpshooters throughout the game as EOU's leading scorers were Adam Orr and Emmit Taylor III. Taylor took charge in the first half putting up 11 points on seven shots. In a five minute span the senior put nine of his 11 points midway through the first half. Heading into the break EOU held a 37-29 lead. WPU battled back in the second half as Caleb-Tyree Morgan willed the Knights back into it with 14 points. Orr did his best to keep the Mounties ahead with 11 of his own but it wasn't enough as the Knights took the lead late. Eastern had to rely on a 3-3 trip to the line from Taylor to force overtime with one second left on the clock. In overtime it was free throws that made the difference as the Knights went 4-4 down the stretch to seal the victory, 81-78.

Eastern will look to bounce back with the toughest matchup of the season ahead of them. The Mounties will take on the No. 1 ranked Yotes of the College of Idaho on Tuesday for a midweek matchup. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MT.
