LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineers Softball split day one of their series against Corban University. Eastern Oregon was tripped up in the opener, 5-4, before bouncing back with a 4-2 win in game two.
Game 1 – Corban 5, Eastern Oregon 4
How it Happened
• Timely hitting was key in the series opening win for the Warriors (17-23, 10-11 CCC) who escaped with the one-run win. Eastern (28-11 15-5 CCC) had the edge in hitting, 9-6.
• The Warriors also had two errors in the game, while EOU played a clean game. A two-run third inning and a three-run sixth lifted Corban to the slim series opening win.
• Getting the Warriors on the board and ending a scoreless game was a two-run homer in the third. EOU answered in the fourth with three runs scored to jump ahead by one, 3-2.

• The final run of the game for the Mounties came in the fifth. Gaither singled to left , scoring
Hannah Tyree to put the Mounties up by two runs, 4-2.
• In the sixth frame, a pair of singles by the Warriors ultimately secured them the win. An RBI base hit scored a run to make it 4-3 before a two RBI single to right center gave Corban the 5-4 lead, which the team never surrendered.

• Holly Gonzales (8-8) pitched a complete game and had six strikeouts.
Game 2 – Eastern Oregon 4, Corban 2
How it Happened
• Game two was a low scoring fight and neither team had a clean game by any means. Corban outhit EOU, 9-5, and had two less errors with a 2-4 mark.
• Helping EOU secure the day one split was a three-run fourth inning. Outside of the fourth, neither team scored more than once.
• Corban got on the board in the second on an EOU error and two hits. An RBI double down the left field line scored an unearned Warriors run to make it 1-0.
• The score remained 1-0 until the fourth when EOU struck. A leadoff walk, followed by back-to-back walks loaded the bases and the Mounties made Corban pay.

• Leading 3-1, EOU held on this time around for the win. An RBI single from Gaither in the fifth scored their final run as her hit plated home

• The final Warriors runs came in the top of the seventh ultimately thanks to three errors by EOU. Despite the miscues, Eastern gave up just one run before closing out the game with the two-run victory.
