SALEM, Ore. – Mountaineer Women's Lacrosse suffered a tough setback in their 2022 road finale, dropping a 19-7 contest to in-state rival Corban University. With the loss, Eastern Oregon falls to 1-6 on the year.
How it Happened
• Helping the Warriors (3-2) in the win was a 7-2 start in the first period and a defensive effort that held EOU scoreless in the second period.
• Corban outshot EOU 32-18 and had a 29-16 advantage in shots on goal. The Warriors also had a slight edge in draw controls and ground balls at 17-12 and 18-15, respectively.
• In the first period, the Warriors tacked on two goals to jump ahead 2-0.
Abigail Burkeen got EOU on the board with 11:49 to play, scoring a goal to make it 2-1.
• Following a goal by the Warriors,
Kiana Watchman found the back of the net in the first five minutes to keep the Mounties within one, 3-2. Corban then went on a 5-0 run to lead 7-2.
• The second period was the difference in the game as the Warriors extended their 5-0 run from the first to 11-0. The 6-0 surge gave Corban a 13-2 advantage going into halftime.
• The Mounties bounced back defensively in the second half of action. They held the Warriors to just six goals in the final 30 minutes and added five on the offensive end.
• In the third period, both squads put up three goals to make it a 16-5 score. Leading the way was
Claire Bever who scored a pair of goals, while
Kate McAfee added one.
• In the first minute of play, Bever found the back of the net as she scored in a woman-down situation for EOU. She then scored again with 11:37 on the clock to make it a 13-4 game.
• The Warriors tacked on two goals to go back up 11, 15-4, before EOU scored again. McAfee scored with 90 seconds on the clock to cut the score to 15-5.
• Corban tacked on one final goal in the final five seconds to go ahead 16-5 entering the fourth period. In the fourth, McAfee added her second goal, scoring in the first five minutes.
• McAfee's goal got EOU within 10 once more, 16-6, but the team was unable to overcome the fast start by Corban.
• The Warriors scored three straight goals before Eastern found the back of the net again. Burkeen scored her second goal of the day with 1:46 left on the clock to bring the score to its final of 19-7.

• Aleana Godoy picked up a team best five ground balls, caused two turnovers, and scored once.
• Goalie Payton Nuse had nine saves in the win to improve to 3-2 on the year.
