KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Mountaineers Baseball was unable to avoid the series sweep as they dropped two more games on Monday and fell 4-0 overall to Oregon Tech. With the two losses, Eastern Oregon falls to 7-22 overall and is 0-4 to start conference play.
Game 1 – Oregon Tech 2, Eastern Oregon 1
How it Happened
• Defense was key for both teams in the low scoring affair as the two combined for just seven hits EOU had the edge at 4-3.
• The lone error of the contest came from the Mountaineers. Oregon Tech (21-9, 4-0 CCC) played a clean game in the win and scored both runs in the third inning.
• OIT got two runners on with a walk and a hit by pitch. Both got into scoring position on stolen bases before a two RBI single to deep center field gave OIT the 2-0 edge.
• The lone run of the contest for Eastern came in the following inning to make things interesting. An
Austin Gerding RBI single allowed
Trevor Curl to score and make it a 2-1 game.
• The Mountaineers defense played well the final four frames and did not allow a single hit. They worked 1-2-3 frames in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh frames.
• OIT was stout on defense too as they allowed just one more hit the rest of the game. The final base hit for EOU came in the ninth before Tech closed out the game for the win.

For the Hustlin' Owls
• Tyler Horner went 1-4 at the plate and tallied two RBI.
• Ian Peters had one hit in three at bats.
• Mitchel Swanson also tallied one hit in three plate appearances.
• Jacob Miller (3-3) earned the win in the start and struck out five in five innings pitched.
• Brendan Talonen earned the save, his second, and had three strikeouts.
Game 2 – Oregon Tech 6, Eastern Oregon 3
How it Happened
• Stout defensive play carried over into the series finale as both squads played a clean game throughout. OIT had the edge in hits in the finale at 7-5.
• Helping the Hustlin' Owls was three runs in the opening frame and they scored all six in the first four innings of work. EOU managed no more than one run over three different innings.
• Three hits in the first inning allowed Tech to score three runs along with a walk. Two singles and a double gave OIT the 3-0 lead entering the second.
• Following a scoreless second inning, OIT tacked on one run in the third. A two-out solo home run to right field pushed the Hustlin' Owls lead to 4-0.
• EOU ended its scoring drought in the fourth thanks to a pair of hits and a hit by pitch to score a run.
Matt Garcia doubled down the left field line, allowing
Brooks Dyer to score.
• OIT immediately responded with two runs scored, which was the team's final two of the game. A RBI fielder's choice and a groundout ultimately scored the two runs to make it a 6-1 contest.
• The final two runs for the Mounties came in the eighth and ninth, respectively. A wild pitch scored the first run in
Harrison Goyette to bring EOU within four runs, 6-2.
• The final run for Eastern came on the efforts of hits by
Elliott Marks and
Adrian Roa. Marks led off with a double and was plated home on an RBI single to right field by Roa before OIT closed out the game.
