FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Mountaineers Baseball was unable to secure the series win Sunday afternoon, dropping the final two games against No. 18 Pacific University. The Boxers won the two games by scores of 9-4 and 18-4 (8 Innings) to take the series, 3-1. With the two losses, Eastern Oregon is now 4-7 on the year.
Game 1 – No. 18 Pacific 9, Eastern Oregon 4
How it Happened
• The Boxers (5-2) took game one thanks to a six-run fifth inning that EOU was unable to match. Both teams had 10-plus hits and did not commit an error.
• The Mountaineers managed to tally 12 hits and had the edge at 12-10 over the Boxers, but left 10 runners stranded in the loss. Pacific stranded seven in the win.
• Both teams scored one run in the opening frame to knot the game at a 1-1 tie. EOU loaded the bases and a one-out RBI sacrifice fly from
Matt Garcia scored
Dane Kelsey to make it 1-0.
• Pacific drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the and a double in the second at bat scored the runner to tie the game. Starter
Nick Jennings then forced three groundouts to end the frame.
• Neither team scored in the second, while Jennings was able to work a 1-2-3 outing to quickly end the inning. Garcia hit a two-out triple in the third, but was left stranded.
• The Boxers grabbed their first lead of the day in the bottom of the third. EOU gave up two walks and a single to load the bases before an RBI walk scored the run, bringing the score to 2-1.
• Eastern left two runners stranded in the fourth despite not getting a hit. Jennings bounced back in the bottom of the frame going three-up, three-down to keep the deficit at one run.
• In the fifth, Pacific worked a quick 1-2-3 frame to get back on offense. The Boxers then scored six runs on three hits to open their lead up to 8-1.
• EOU gave up two walks to start before a two RBI double scored the first two runs of the inning. An RBI triple in the next at bat brought the score to 5-1.
• EOU then walked another batter before a sacrifice fly tacked on the sixth run for Pacific. The Mounties forced a pop up for out No. 2, but Pacific then hit a two-run homer to go up 8-1.
• EOU did not score again until the top of the ninth, while the Boxers scored their final run in the sixth. A one out single got a runner on before an RBI double to left scored the run.
• In the seventh innings, Eastern managed to put up four hits but the Boxers' defense kept them from crossing home plate.
• In the ninth,
Austin Gerding led off with a single and got to second on a Kelsey single. A passed ball advanced both and an RBI sacrifice fly from
Hector Carreon scored Gerding.
• The final run for EOU came on the next at bat with Garcia hitting an RBI groundout to the shortstop to score Kelsey. Pacific then forced a groundout to stall any hopes of a comeback by EOU.

• Derek Eubanks (1-0) went six full innings in the win and had a game-high four strikeouts.
Game 2 – No. 18 Pacific 14, Eastern Oregon 4 (8 Innings)
How it Happened
• Lifting the Boxers to the win in eight frames of action was three runs scored in two different innings and six in another. They tallied 16 hits in the win and held EOU to just 7.
• Both squads had two errors in the game but EOU managed just two runs over the first six innings and scored the final two in the seventh.
• The first run for EOU came in the top of the second.
Brooks Dyer scored
Garret Kollar on an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to give EOU a 1-0 lead to start.
• The Mountaineers extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third. An RBI groundout from
Matt Garcia scored
Harrison Goyette to put the Mounties up two.
• Pacific answered in the bottom of the third scoring three runs to go ahead by one, 3-2. An RBI single up the middle made it a 2-1 game before an RBI single to right center tied the game at 2-all.
• A double to right center in the same frame plated the third run and put Pacific up 3-2. The Boxers' efforts gave them the lead and they never relinquished it.
• The score remained 4-2 until the fifth inning as three runs scored by the Boxers made it a 6-2 score. Pacific loaded the bases in the fifth and scored three runs on an error by shortstop.
• After working a 1-2-3 frame in the top of the sixth, the Boxers then tacked on six more runs on six hits to push the score to 12-2.
• A leadoff home run made it 7-2 for Pacific to start the inning. An RBI double and a two RBI single made it 10-2 quickly before a triple and a single scored the final two runs to make it a 10-run game.
• EOU tacked on two runs in the seventh to keep the deficit under 10.

• The Boxers got both runs back scoring one in the seventh and eighth, respectively to end the game early. An RBI single in the seventh and a sacrifice fly scored the two runs to give the Boxers the series finale win and the series win, 3-1.
