EOU Sweeps CCC Wrestler of the Week Awards

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University swept the CCC Men's and Women's Wrestler of the Week Awards presented by Rize Laboratories. Kyle Knudtson on the men's team and Morgan Shines on the women's team earned the honors for their excellent performances over the last weekend.

Mountaineer Men's Wrestling officially kicked off the 2022 season of competition on Saturday with a dual against Clackamas Community College. Knudtson started his year off with a pin in just under three minutes. The following day the 184-pounder picked up his first tournament victory of the year going 3-0 with two pins and an impressive 12-0 victory over Oregon State's Donivan Giangregorio.

"Kyle had a great weekend, the work he put in over the summer showed this weekend," Men's Wrestling Coach Dustyn Azure said. "He didn't allow any points to be scored on him in 4 matches, his offensive attacks were the difference maker. "

Morgan Shines was just as dominant in her season debut at the Mountaineer Open going 5-0 on her way to winning the 136-pound weight division.  The Washington native won every match via pin or tech fall on the day with three tech falls and two pins. Her dominant performance was highlighted by an 11-0 tech fall over Washington State's Julie Wilson.

The men's wrestling team returns to action at two tournaments this weekend heading to Iowa for the Grandview Open on Saturday followed by the Mike Clock Open in Forest Grove, Ore. on Sunday. The women's will join the men's team at the Mike Clock Open on Sunday.
