Mountaineers End Season on Win

ASHLAND, Ore. – In their final game of the season Eastern Oregon picked up their second win in a 21-14 game with the Frontier Conference's only other member in the state. With the win the Mountaineers finish the season 2-9 while Southern dropped to 3-7.

Early on it seemed as though Southern Oregon picked up where they left off in their last game against the Mounties which they won 42-14. In the Raiders' first possession of the game Levi Durrell lead a five-play 71-yard drive that ended in a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Clemmer to put SOU up seven.

In their next possession, Southern scored again on a nearly six-minute drive that spanned 11 plays and 62 yards. A big 28-yard connection between Durrell and Ben Graziani helped keep the drive alive as the Raiders marched into Mountaineer territory. Durrell ended up taking it in himself for a one-yard touchdown rush to make it a two-score game, 14-0.

EOU flipped a switch in the second quarter scoring two touchdowns of their own. It started with a huge 76-yard touchdown pass as Andrew James found Blake Davis to put the Mounties on the board at the beginning of the second quarter.

With momentum on their side the Mountaineers defense came up big as the Raiders were in striking distance on their next drive. Just two yards outside of the redzone, Durrell lofted a pass that was picked off by Josh Mendoza on the Eastern Oregon seven-yard line for his fifth interception of the year.

With the ball back in their possession the Mounties struck again through the air. Andrew James lead a 93-yard drive that included a 67-yard reception by Eastern's number one target Malachi Spurrier. The big reception helped set up a touchdown on a fade route hauled in by Jonah Blackham in the corner of the endzone to make it 14-14.

A scoreless third led to a crucial fourth quarter with the score tied up. Starting the quarter on Southern's 47, Aiden Patterson got the ball rolling with an 18-yard carry to the 29-yard line. A couple of passes later and Andrew James found Drew Reyes for his third passing touchdown of the day putting the Mountaineers on top, 21-14.

Two big stops by the Mountaineers' defense allowed them to take home their second victory of the year with a final score of 21-14.
