KIRKLAND, Wash. – Eastern Oregon University Men's Basketball suffered a setback Friday night in an 86-70 road loss at Northwest University. The defeat brings the Mountaineers record to 10-8 overall and 4-6 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
How it Happened
• Hot shooting from the Eagles (7-8, 4-6 CCC) guided them to the home win as they went 34-57 overall for 59.6% and were 9-19 from three-point range for 47.4%. EOU finished 27-63 for 42.9% overall and was 8-21 from deep for 38.1%.
• EOu managed to force 15 turnovers and scored 18 points off them, but post scoring was key in the win for NU. The Eagles outscored Eastern 42-31 in the paint. Bench scoring was nearly tied with NU having the edge, 25-24.
• Through the first five minutes of play, the Eagles managed to grab a 15-7 lead. They led wire-to-wire the whole night and used a fast start to secure the win.
• The Eagles lead grew to double figures with 12:02 to play in the half, 19-9. Eastern managed to cut their deficit to six a few times before, but never managed to tie the game at any point.
• NU led 34-24 late in the half and used an 8-0 surge to jump ahead 42-24 with just over a minute to play in the half. EOU responded with a quick 6-0 run to stay within 12, 42-30, at the break.
• Eastern managed to keep pace in the second half, but the Eagles still just managed to outscore them 44-40. Despite their efforts, the first half struggles ultimately doomed EOU in making any sort of comeback.
• The Mountaineers never got any closer than 10 points in the second half as NU had an answer each time to maintain control. EOU closed the gap to 44-34 in the first two minutes of the frame, but a 9-2 run pushed the Eagles' lead to 53-36.
• As the second half continued on, consistent shooting from the Eagles matched any surge that EOU put together. NU led by as much as 20 points a pair of times before cruising to the 86-70 home win.
