Mountaineers Swept by Yotes on the Road

CALDWELL, Idaho – Eastern Oregon University Softball wrapped up its weekend series at College of Idaho Sunday afternoon as the team dropped both contests to fall 4-0 to the Coyotes. With the two losses, EOU falls to 7-15 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

Game 1 – College of Idaho 12, Eastern Oregon 1 (5 Innings)
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers managed just five hits in game one and had one error in the contest. The Yotes (19-7, 9-0 CCC) had eight hits in the win and also posted one error.
• The Yotes opened up the contest with six runs scored in the first inning to get out early on the Mounties. C of I had just two hits in the inning but an error by EOU combined with well time hits gave the home team the 6-0 lead.
• C of I kept things moving with a 1-2-3 outing to start the second and followed up with three runs scored in the bottom of the frame. Four hits from the Yotes paired with a passed ball and hit by pitch allowed them to bring in the three runs to expand the lead to 9-0.
• The lead for the Yotes grew to 11-0 in the bottom of the third as EOU walked two batters and a double to left center scored both. The lone EOU run came in the fourth when Haley Ebner led off with a double and was immediately plated home on an RBI double from Jordan Henley.
• The Yotes got their final run in the home half of the fourth thanks to a sole home run down the right field line made it 12-1 after four. C of I then got two ground outs and a pop up in the top of the fifth to end the game in five innings.

How it Happened
• The Yotes continued to hit the ball well tallying 11 but posted five errors in the win. Eastern was limited to just three hits in the contest but did not have an error in the second matchup.
• C of I got on the board early with a run in the first inning. Back-to-back hits after one out allowed the run to score and put the Yotes up 1-0 going into the second. The scored remained 1-0 after two innings before six runs in the third opened up the lead for C of I.
• Eastern scored its first run in the top of the third thanks to back-to-back errors by the Yotes. Olivia Zufelt got on with a single to right field before two throwing errors by the infield allowed her to score the unearned run and make it a 1-all tie.
• C of I responded in the bottom half of the third and tallied five hits to score six runs. For hits in the first four at bats led off by a double allowed the Yotes to score a run and load the bases. Leading 2-1, two straight hit by pitches brought in two runs before an RBI single and a stolen base at home capped the inning to bring the score to 7-1.
• The score remained 7-1 until the bottom of the sixth when the Yotes scored their final run of the day. A solo home run to right field plated the final run and gave the Yotes the 8-1 edge.
