LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon Men's Wrestling is ready to go for another jam packed weekend of mat action as they head to Montana to the University of Providence. The Mountaineers will battle in three duals on Friday, Dec. 3 before turning their sites to another tournament on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Mat Points
• The Mountaineers (1-2, 1-1 CCC) will look to continue their winning ways in dual action when they battle a trio of talented squads up north.
• EOU's three opponents at the Battle of the Rockies Duals will feature a team from each collegiate division of the NCAA (SFU), NAIA (UP), and NJCAA (Northwest).
• In dual action this season, EOU is 1-2 with a 1-1 record in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. The Mountaineers lone win was against Simpson, 51-3, back on Nov. 19.
• The Battle of the Rockies Open will be the fourth tournament of the season for the Mountaineers. They are recently coming off a sixth place finish at the Spokane Collegiate Open back on Nov. 21.
• Following the busy weekend for EOU, the team will have a week off before returning to action for a pair of duals and another tournament in mid-December.

Last Time Out
• The Mountaineers sent a limited squad up to Washington for the annual Spokane Collegiate Open, but still walked away placing sixth with 82.5 points.
• Eastern had a quartet of grapplers earn podium finishes, including two runner-up placewinners.

Jay Smith and
Kyle Knudtson were second at 197 an d184 pounds, respectively. Both wrestlers posted 4-1 records on the day for the Mountaineers.
• Also earning podium finishes were
Vincent Cramer and
Adrian Guevara. Cramer was fourth at 149 pounds, as was Guevara at 125 pounds. Cramer went 5-2, while Guevara was 3-2 on the day.
Previously Against This Weekend's Opponents
• The Mountaineers' dual against Simon Fraser will be the first between the two squads.
• Eastern is 1-1 all-time against Northwest College. The two teams last met in 2018-19 at the Battle of the Rockies Duals with EOU walking away the victor, 36-15.
• EOU is 0-4 against Providence since the program's reinstatement in 2016-17. The two squads last met in 2019-20 in La Grande with the Argos securing a 34-9 win inside Quinn Coliseum.
• EOU last competed at the Battle of the Rockies Open in 2018-19. The Mountaineers had three placewinners led by
Mhar Caballa who was the champion at 125 pounds.
Scouting the Competition
Simon Fraser University
• SFU has competed in just one dual this year but it was denoted as a scrimmage. They have also wrestled in three tournaments.
• Taniela Feliciano-Takafua headlines the SFU squad as he is off to a 14-0 start on the year at 285 pounds and has been the top placewinner at each tournament.
• At 149 pounds, Randy McDonald is 7-5 on the season on the latest TrackWrestling.com rankings.
• Also having a solid start in the 285-pound weight class is Raphael Masella. He is 9-3 on the year so far.
• For SFU, this weekend's duals will be the teams first countable contests.
Northwest College Trappers
• The Trappers enter the weekend with an 0-6 record on the year and still in search of their first win.
• Injuries have battered the Northwest College Squad who had to cancel its previous three contests.
• The Trappers roster for the 2021-22 season is made up of eight grapplers across seven weight classes.
University of Providence Argos
• The Argos are 1-2 on the year in dual action and 0-1 against CCC opponents.
• Providence has competed in just two tournaments this season in the Grand View Open and the Spokane Collegiate Open.
• At the Spokane Open, the Argos finished third as a team with 137 points. Six wrestlers placed, led by Joel Avila (125) and KC Buday (285) who both finished second in their respective weight classes.
• Avila was named the CCC Wrestler of the Week for his runner-up finish at Spokane. He is currently ranked 12th at 125 pounds in the NAIA and has a 7-4 record on the year.
• Buday currently sports an 11-2 record for the Argos at 285 pounds with his two losses both coming in championship matches.
