EOU Finishes 2-1 at Mountaineer Duals on Senior Night

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 18 Eastern Oregon men's wrestling team went 2-1 on Saturday in the Mountaineer Duals, defeating No. 3-ranked junior college North Idaho 29-16 and Warner Pacific 45-10, before faltering to No. 9 Providence 34-9 at Quinn Coliseum.

Despite falling behind 16-0 after four matches, the Mountaineers rallied to the victory by winning the next six in a row. John Bittinger got things started with a dominant 16-6 major decision win for EOU's first victory.

After a Josh Pine forfeit win, sophomore Keegan Mulhill won by a second round pin to tie the score 16-16. Junior Marco Retano won one of the big matches of the afternoon, defeating No. 4 ranked Hunter Gregerson by an 18-5 major decision.

In the eventual deciding match, junior Cade Woodward won a thriller against No. 5 Micah Tynanes. With the score close, Woodward got the best of Tynanes to pin him with just seven seconds remaining. Junior Noel Orozco put the cherry on top with a 7-3 decision win in the heavyweight match over No. 19 Cortez Rodelo, ending the dual 29-16.

The Mounties again started with two losses against WPU, but rattled off eight-straight victories. Senior Blake McNall got things started with the pin on Senior Day. EOU got pins by Pine and Mulhill, along with four forfeits and a decision win by Orozco to easily down the Knights.

In their toughest dual of the day, the Mountaineers battled Providence to a 34-9 loss. EOU got its three wins by McNall, Mulhill and Retano, all by decision. Retano defeated No. 13 ranked Hayden Schrull by an 11-10 score.

Along with McNall, seniors Dally Ratcliff and Rowdy Keller were honored prior to the dual with Providence.

The Mountaineers continue the week's action on Sunday at the first Mountaineer Open at Quinn Coliseum. Action begins at 9 a.m.
