EOU Football Crushes MSUN 45-7 for Homecoming

Box Score

LA GRANDE, Ore. – In front of a passionate crowd that included many alumni and the 2019 Hall of Fame Class, the Eastern Oregon football team put on a show with a 45-7 thrashing of Montana State-Northern on Saturday night at Community Stadium.

The Mountaineers (2-5, 2-4 Frontier) ended their three-game losing streak in impressive fashion, scoring 24 points before the Lights' first score in the third quarter.

After a fumble on the first play from scrimmage by MSUN, the Mountaineers capitalized on the turnover and the short field as senior running back Victor Dias punched it in from one yard out.

Before the end of the first, the offense got the ball back and scored on its second possession, capped off on a 13-yard pass from quarterback Kai Quinn to tight end Conner Falk.

On the last drive of the half, EOU went seven plays for 42 yards as running back Kaler Moore crossed the end line from 11 yards out, making it 21-0 at halftime.

The Mounties came out of the halftime locker room and added to their lead as kicker Jaiden Machuca remained perfect on the year with a 30-yard field goal.

The Lights finally got on the board with 5:45 left in the third quarter as quarterback Brenden Medina hit Jett Robertson in the corner of the end zone for 18 yards.

It continued to be all EOU from there on out. On a trick play, Dias threw to receiver Phoenix Millhollen out of the backfield for a 34-yard touchdown. On the very next MSUN drive, defensive back Eric Prom intercepted a pass and returned it 38 yards for six more points to make it 38-7.

In the fourth quarter, Dias capped off his great night with his third total touchdown, a 17-yard rush to make it 45-7 Mounties. The run capped off an impressive 14 play, 97-yard drive, one of the best all year for EOU.

Overall, the defense had three interceptions including by Prom, Haziel Ledezma and Zackary Jacobs.

More information about total yards will be added when the full statistics are available.

The Mountaineers remain at home next week, hosting rival Southern Oregon at 1 p.m. for the annual Military Appreciation Game at Community Stadium.
