Notes: EOU Football Hosts Rival No. 4 Southern Oregon

Full Game Notes vs. Southern Oregon (Sept. 1)

LA GRANDE, Ore. –
The Eastern Oregon football team hosts the second of back-to-back home contests to start 2018, welcoming No. 4 Southern Oregon on Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. at Community Stadium.
 
Fans can listen to the game on NewsTalk 103.1, while live video is available via pay-per-view ($7.95) on EOUsports.com. Curran Holdman (play-by-play) will be the voice of the Blue and Gold this season.
 
GAME NOTES
• The Blue and Gold opened the new turf field with a bang, defeating the College of Idaho (receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll) 24-21 at Community Stadium on Aug. 25.
 
• The defense had a strong first showing, holding the Yotes to under 300 yards of offense while forcing two turnovers and getting to the quarterback three times.
 
• EOU holds an all-time record of 280-463-14 (.375). 2018 marks the 73rd-consecutive season in program history. EOU did not compete between 1942-45 due to World War II.
 
• The Mounties suffered two close losses to Southern Oregon in 2017. In week one, SOU came away with a 31-21 victory, before making a 14-point comeback in week six to defeat EOU 31-27. The Mountaineers outgained SOU 466-411 in the second meeting, but gave up 21 points in the fourth quarter.
 
• The Mountaineers are 30-22 at Community Stadium all-time under Camp. EOU owned a 3-1 record at home last season and began 2018 with a home victory vs. C of I.
 
• Eastern Oregon is 2-7 against SOU at home under camp, with the last win in 2016.
 
• The Mountaineers made their first trip to the NAIA Championships in 2016, reaching the semifinals.
 
• The Raiders won the Frontier Conference in 2017 with a perfect 10-0 record. They advanced to the semifinals of the NAIA Championships, falling 37-34 in double overtime against No. 2 Reinhardt.

SERIES HISTORY
• Saturday's game will be the 75th meeting between the two teams with Southern Oregon, owning a 53-18-3 record against EOU. The Raiders took the last game 31-27 on Oct. 14 in La Grande.
 
MOUNTAINEERS BY THE NUMBERS
62       Head Coach Tim Camp is the all-time winningest coach in EOU football history with 61 wins.
 
1          Defensive back Zackary Jacobs had two interceptions on Saturday, ranking 1st in the NAIA so far this season.
