EOU Football Routs MSUN 58-24

FAVRE, Montana. – The (RV) Mountaineer football team took care of business on the road, routing Montana State Northern 58-24 while racking up 637 yards of total offense on Saturday night in Frontier Conference play.

Eastern Oregon, (3-2, 3-2 FC) has now won back-to-back games for the first time this season, and played their first complete game of 2018. Montana State Northern (1-5, 0-5 FC) lost their fifth-straight game of the season Saturday night, scoring in double-digits for just the third time this year.

MSUN took an early lead in the first quarter by a score of 10-7, however the Mountaineers caught fire for the rest of the game, finishing on a 51-14 run to win 58-24. EOU outgained the Lights 637-360 in the game and outscored MSUN 44-3 in the second and third quarters.

EOU was able to attack the MSUN defense in multiple ways, keeping them off balance most of the game. Quarterback Kai Quinn got the offense going early with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Brenden Kelly, a connection that set multiple program records two weeks ago against Montana Western. Kelly scored again late in the first half, giving him two on the day.

Quinn had another efficient day orchestrating the offense, picking up 330 yards and three touchdowns on 22-for-32 passing. His go-to receiver, Kelly, ended with 108 yards on four receptions and two scores. Both players lead the Frontier Conference in passing and receiving, respectively. Quinn also rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown in the first half. 

Running back Victor Dias was a key piece of the offense tonight, scoring two touchdowns. Dias' first was a 73-yard dash up the middle of the field, and his second came from 11 yards out. The running back from Middleton, Idaho finished the night with 14 carries for 132 yards and two scores, averaging a dominant 9.4 yards per carry.

Defensive back Zackary Jacobs continued his stellar defensive play in this matchup. Jacobs secured his 5th interception of the season, which is two more than any other player in the Frontier Conference.

Linebacker Chris Kindle led the rush for the Mountaineers, accruing six tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Garrett Devos and and Isaiah Cranford also tallied six tackles in the game.

Quarterback Joey Aliff and running back Kaler Moore each recorded their first touchdowns in an Eastern Oregon uniform in the second half. Aliff connected with E'lon Mack for a 46-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Moore recorded a nine-yard rushing score.

Eastern Oregon has a big matchup next week with No. 3 Southern Oregon (4-1) in Ashland, who beat the Mountaineers 32-13 at Community Stadium on September 1st.
