EOU Men’s & Women’s Wrestling Battle at Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Eastern Oregon men's and women's wrestling teams battled it out on the road Saturday night, with the men falling to a tough University of Providence program, while the women wrestled four matches in an exhibition.

The Mountaineer men dropped their second match to start the season by a 32-10 score, running into another top-ranked opponent in the No. 4 Argos.

Senior No.12-ranked Mhar Caballa (2-0) won his second-straight match to open the year, defeating Providence's No. 14-ranked Michael Lefuel by a 9-5 decision at 125 pounds to begin the dual. Caballa defeated No. 8 Nick Kunz of Montana State-Northern a night prior to have already accrued two top-20 wins.

Freshman Keegan Mulhill picked up the Mounties' second win of the evening at 165 pounds, defeating Josh Beckler by a 12-4 major decision.

Two matches later, sophomore Marco Retano won his second match in a row, topping another ranked opponent in No. 10 Tyler Webley. Retano won another close match by a 7-4 decision after defeating No. 12-ranked Steeler French of MSUN on Friday.

At that point in the dual, EOU trailed 20-10. However, the Mounties were forced to forfeit the final two matches to fall 32-10 against the Argos.

The women's team wrestled for the first time on Saturday, matching up with Providence in an exhibition with four individual matches.

Junior Cassidy Freeman was the lone winner for the Mountaineer women, defeating her opponent Angie Sletten by a 13-1 technical fall. Amber Pair, Macy Higa and Krystal Fabricante all competed as well, but were unable to come away with wins on Saturday.

The men's and women's wrestling teams will be back at home in a week, hosting Big Bend Community College for a pair of duals beginning at 6 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum.
