First Half Dominance Propels No. 8 EOU to 10th-Straight Win

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Make it 10 straight.

The Eastern Oregon's women's basketball team rolled onto its 10th-straight win and a 9-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference record, defeating Northwest 75-41 on Saturday night.

The Mounties (16-2, 9-0 CCC) have looked unstoppable in conference play with all nine wins by more than 10 points. EOU has defeated its last five conference opponents by more than 25 points each.

The Mountaineers completely dominated the first half of action, outscoring the Eagles (6-11, 3-5 CCC) 24-7 in both quarters. The defense was especially suffocating on the Northwest offense, limiting the Eagles to five made field goals and just 17.9 percent shooting. The Mounties continued to roll offensively shooting 50 percent and making 10 three-pointers.

A balanced offensive attack led the Blue and Gold as four players reached double-digit points. After reaching 1,000 points for her career a night prior, senior guard Payton Parrish paced the team with 17 points with five three-pointers made. Parrish also led the Mountaineers with nine rebounds.

Senior forward Mariah Swanson had another strong game with 14 points, which included four three-pointers. The senior made her first three attempts from behind the arc in the first quarter, adding seven boards for the game. Senior forward Stormee Van Belle had 14 points and six rebounds and junior guard Maya Ah You-Dias added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists. Senior guards Jessica Sexson and Reece Bauer had six and five assists, respectively.

The Blue and Gold cooled off shooting in the second half, but continued its tough defensive pressure, holding the Eagles to 26 percent shooting for the game. The Mounties turned Northwest's 18 turnovers into 25 points.

For the Eagles, Miranda Langenhorst provided over half the team's offense with 21 points. Langenhorst shot 9-of-12 from the floor and had a double-double with 13 rebounds.

The Mountaineers return home for the first time in 2018, hosting Multnomah on Friday and Warner Pacific on Saturday. Tip off for both games are set for 5:30 p.m. from Quinn Coliseum.
