EOU Women’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. – The EOU women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Puget Sound Friday evening at East Field. After 110 minutes of scoreless action, the Mountaineers move to 1-1-1 on the season.

"We did a much better job maintaining possession and not forcing anything," said head coach Jacob Plocher. "We had a few great looks that we just have to be able to put away."

Overall, the Blue and Gold outshot the Loggers with an 18-3 advantage, with 10 being on goal. Senior midfielder Yasmin Mookerdum, along with the junior duo of midfielder Natalie Mitchell and defender Chelsey Nicol, all recorded three shots apiece. Mookerdum and Nicol led the charge with three shots coming on frame. Junior keeper Val Gaffney played all 110 minutes and recorded three saves.

EOU put the pressure on early producing one corner, while launching two shots on goal within the first six minutes of play. As the 19th minute rolled around, senior midfielder Mariana Madrigal tested the Logger keeper with a shot but was denied. The Mounties went on to take four more shots but nothing would materialize from them.

Heading into the locker room, EOU held a 7-2 shot advantage (three shots on frame).

EOU once again started the attack early on in the second half with a flurry of shots commencing in the 50th tick. Mitchell fired two shots that were saved and junior forward Alexandria Cuaresma joined in on the action with her first shot but the UPS keeper once again came up with the gloves.

Puget Sound fired back with a shot on target in the 58th minute but Gaffney would log the save. Looking to break the scoreless draw, both teams came up empty hitting the crossbar once apiece, before the final whistle blew to end regulation.

In sudden death over time, EOU led the charge with three shots on target by Mookerdum as neither team found the net en route to a scoreless draw.
