Drake Randall Takes Down #1 Grappler as EOU Falls to MSU-Northern

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Two out of the four ranked wrestlers for the Mountaineers (4-8) got decision wins against No. 13 Montana State-Northern (6-1), as they fell 30-6 at Quinn Coliseum on Thursday in the team's conference dual.

Junior transfer Drake Randall (157-lb) had a prominent triumph over big-name MSU-Northern grappler Matt Weber Thursday night. No. 16 Randall needed all three periods to defeat No. 1 Weber with seconds to spare in regulation. The 7-6 decision gives the Lewiston native his 18th win and second  victory over top-20 ranked opponents.

Likewise in a near-at-hand matchup was the 133-lb weight class, where No. 18 Blake McNall shined over Landon Bailey in a 6-5 decision. The sophomore also called for three periods. In the final two minutes, McNall would need to act fast being down 4-5. To take the lead, a swift move was carried out as a two-point takedown was awarded to McNall, awarding the Blue and Gold three team points.

Despite dropping to the Northern Lights, the Mounties thrived by not allowing any pin falls the entire match. Coming just two points shy from victory was A.J. Rockwell (141-lb), where he fell in double-overtime and Mhar Caballa, succumbing in three periods (125-lb). In the same fashion. Dylan Veis submitted a 3-1 decision over Jacob Posey (149-lb).

On December 17, the men's wrestling team travel down to "The Silver State" at the Reno Tournament of Champions in Nevada. The Blue and Gold aim to rise above Division 1 power house opponents at this venerable event.
