EOU Men’s Wrestling to Host Southern Oregon Friday

LA GRANDE, Ore – For the first time since 1976, the EOU men's wrestling team will re-visit a heated rivalry with in-state rival Southern Oregon. On Friday, the Mountaineers will host the Raiders at Quinn Coliseum in their home opener at 7 p.m.

Because this is the first match since the men's program was re-instated last fall, the EOU athletic department also announced that there would be a special presentation at 6:45 p.m. to mark the occasion. Oregon State Rep. Greg Smith will be in attendance for the pre-match festivities, which includes a reception in the Quinn booster room.

EOU'S LAST TIME OUT
EOU is coming off a 30-13 setback to No. 4 MSU-Northern on Nov. 11 in Havre, Mont. Sophomore Mhar Caballa (125), junior Matt Nguyen (133), and freshman Braeden Phillips (197) each came away with victories in the losing effort.

SOUTHERN OREGON'S LAST TIME OUT
Southern Oregon suffered a 34-11 defeat at the hands of Menlo on Nov. 11 in the Doc Welton Classic. Prior to that match, the Raiders took down Warner Pacific, 31-20. The squad will host Great Falls on Thursday before heading to La Grande.

SERIES HISTORY
EOU holds an all-time record of 6-6 vs. Southern Oregon. In the last meeting during the 1975-76 campaign, the Raiders came away with a 50-0 win. Southern Oregon has won each of the last four meetings. The Mountaineers' last triumph came during the 1969-70 season – a 25-16 win in Ashland, Ore.
