PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team won its 10th game in the last 12 tries, as senior guard Jordan Klebaum registered a game-high 17 points to lead the Mountaineers past Multnomah, 80-45, on Saturday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Klebaum shot 5-for-10 from the field, including a 3-for-8 effort from beyond the arc. Senior forward Madeline Laan added 11 points and four rebounds, while junior forward Ashley Knight chipped in 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds off the bench.
Lacia Kamper shot 6-for-7 and scored 13 points for Multnomah.
THE STORYLINE
Laan tallied five of EOU's first 11 points, as the Mountaineers (11-6, 7-1 CCC) raced to an 11-2 advantage nearly four minutes into the opening quarter. The Lions (3-13, 1-7 CCC) got to within seven (11-4), but then sophomore guard Payton Parrish swooshed a three to extend EOU's lead to double-digits for the remainder of the contest.
Both Klebaum and junior guard Darian Gasseling netted three's early in the second quarter to extend the Navy and Gold's lead to 16 (30-14), and the Mountaineers drilled five of their last six shots of the stanza, as a layup by senior guard Kelsey Hill gave EOU a 47-22 halftime lead.
Multnomah outscored EOU, 9-7, in the opening three minutes of the third quarter until the Mountaineers responded with a 7-2 to run to go up, 61-33, with 5:37 left in the stanza. EOU led after three, 68-41.
Hill and Knight scored 10 of EOU's 12 points in the fourth quarter to keep Multnomah at bay. The Mountaineers led by as many as 35 on two separate occasions, and the Navy and Gold forced 19 turnovers in the triumph.
