CALDWELL, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University football team defeated the College of Idaho Yotes, 45-21, on Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers gained 578 yards of total offense in the victory.
Jace Billingsley led the Mountaineers' offense with 294 yards, 138 rushing yards and 156 yards receiving, on the afternoon.
Zach Bartlow led the Eastern Oregon air attack as he was 21-for-34 for 324 yards.
Eastern Oregon started the scoring in the first quarter. EOU took six minutes and 10 seconds off the clock with a 14 play, 69 yard drive. Billingsley accounted for the last 18 yards for the Mountaineers on the drive. He capped it off with a two yard touchdown run putting EOU ahead, 7-0.
The Yotes battled back to start the second quarter. Zach Garzoli scored from one yard out to tie the game at 7-7.
EOU responded on their very next drive. After a seven yard pass completion to
Calvin Connors, Billingsley went 67 yards on the ground to put the Mountaineers back on top, 14-7.
After the Mountaineers defense stopped the Yotes on a fourth and three, the Mountaineers extended their lead to 21-7. EOU went 61 yards on seven plays. Bartlow found Billingsley, for his third touchdown of the game, for a 22 yard touchdown reception.
Eastern Oregon extended their lead to 28-7 before halftime. After forcing the Yotes to punt, EOU scored in two plays. Bartlow scored on a 27 yard touchdown run to cap off the 36 yard drive for EOU.
College of Idaho scored on their first possession of the second half. Teejay Gordon found Marcus Lenhardt for a 23 yard touchdown, trimming the Mountaineers lead to 14 points, 28-14.
The Mountaineers added a 30 yard field goal in the third quarter to grow their lead back to 17 points, 31-14. The Mountaineers continued to add to their lead. On the first play of the fourth quarter,
TJ Esekielu found the end zone on a six yard rushing play to extend the Mountaineers' lead to 38-14.
Eastern Oregon looked as if they were going to grow their lead more in the fourth quarter. However, Bartlow was intercepted by Cory Brady and Brady returned the ball to the one yard line. On the very next play, College of Idaho's Ryan Texeira scored from one yard out, which left College of Idaho trailing EOU by 17, 38-21.
The Mountaineers added one more score in the fourth quarter as AJ Prom scored from nine yards out to put Eastern Oregon on top, 45-21, which was the final score.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15 when they travel to Ashland, Ore. to face Southern Oregon University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
