LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team outscored Simpson University, 46-18 in the paint, en route to an 88-52 victory for EOU.
The Mountaineers were led by
Madeline Laan who scored 24 points, on 8-of-12 shooting.
Kassy Larson followed with 22 points and
Maloree Moss rounded out the double figure scorers with 15 points for EOU.
Early in the first half it looked as if the Mountaineers were going to pull away early. However, Simpson battled back and kept the game close and after the first five minutes of the contest, EOU led 10-6.
The Mountaineers extended their lead to double figures, 24-10, after going on a 14-4 run over a three minute span. The run was capped off by a jumper by Laan. Eastern Oregon continued to extend their lead and grew it to as many as 17 points in the first half. EOU would take a 15 point, 40-25, lead into halftime.
The Mountaineers continued to climb in the second half and their 15 point lead grew to 23 points over the first five minutes. After a Moss three pointer, EOU led 53-30.
The Red Hawks continued to battle but could not get any closer than 16 points in the second half. EOU's lead grew to as many as 36 points in the second half. EOU claimed an 88-52 victory for their sixth straight win of the season.
The Mountaineers shot over 50 percent for the second straight contest.
EOU returns to action on Friday, Nov. 28 when they travel to Caldwell, Idaho to face Whitworth University in the Caldwell Best Western Inn and Suites Lady Yotes Classic.
