LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University football team overpowered the Montana State University Northern Lights, to a 70-21 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers recorded 583 yards of total offense, during the game.
Zach Bartlow threw for 255 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 28 yards and a score, leading the Mountaineers. On the ground,
Jace Billingsley rushed for 89 yards and three touchdowns. He also recorded 10 receptions for 82 yards.
Tucker Stanley led the Mountaineers with 13 tackles.
EOU's offense was clicking from the first drive of the game. Eastern Oregon took four minutes and 40 seconds off the clock as they went 92 yards on 13 plays.
Jace Billingsley capped off the drive with a four yard touchdown run.
Later in the first quarter, the Mountaineers extended their lead over the Lights. EOU went 80 yards on four plays. Bartlow capped off the drive with a 36 yard touchdown run, putting EOU on top, 14-0.
On Montana State-Northern's first drive of the second quarter, the Mountaineers forced a fumble and recovered the ball to give EOU great field position. EOU scored on their first offensive play of the drive as Hernandez rushed 18 yards for a touchdown.
Later in the second quarter, Eastern Oregon took a 28-0 lead after Billingsley recorded his second rushing touchdown of the game. On this drive he scored from 16 yards out. On the Mountaineers very next possession,
Calvin Connors rushed for a 33 yard touchdown, taking a 35-0 lead.
The Mountaineers grew their lead to 42-0 before halftime.
TJ Esekielu found Hernandez for a 45 yard touchdown pass.
The Mountaineers defense gave the offense great field position as
Ronnie Flowers intercepted Jess Krahn. On the third offensive play for the Mountaineers, Bartlow connected with Hernandez for a 13 yard touchdown putting EOU ahead, 49-0.
Late in the third quarter, the Lights scored their first touchdown of the game. MSU-Northern went 61 yards on nine plays. Mario Gobbato capped off the drive off with a one yard touchdown run.
EOU continued to add to their lead in the fourth quarter. Billingsley recorded his third rushing touchdown of the game, as he went for a 62 yard run. His touchdown put EOU ahead by 56-7.
Montana State-Northern scored the next time they got the ball. Gobbato rushed for his second touchdown of the game. After the Lights scored, EOU answered right back with a three yard touchdown by Esekielu, extending their lead to 63-14.
After another Montana State-Northern touchdown, the Mountaineers answered right back. AJ Prom recorded two carries going for 58 yards. Prom's second rush of the drive went 53 yards for a touchdown, putting EOU on top, 70-21.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 1 when they Montana Tech. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m., Nov. 1. This will also be senior day at Community Stadium.
