No. 20The Eastern Oregon University football team dropped five spots in the fifth edition of the NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll. EOU came in this week at No. 20 after spending last week at No. 15. The sixth edition of the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll comes out on Oct. 20.
Last WeekIn the NAIA Game of the Week, the No. 4 Carroll College Saints overpowered the No. 15 Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers, as the Mountaineers were defeated 55-7. The Saints outgained the Mountaineers 520 yards to 146 yards.
Zach Bartlow scored the only touchdown for the Mountaineers as he rushed for a 66 yard touchdown in the second quarter.
All-Time Receptions LeaderOn Saturday, Jace Billinglsey became the all-time receptions leader at Eastern Oregon. He has 165 receptions in his career. Billingsley passed Ray Patrick (162).
Last Season Against Montana WesternLast year, the Mountaineers squared off against the Bulldogs of Montana Western twice. EOU came away with two victories over Montana Western. The first matchup in La Grande, Ore., Eastern Oregon defeated then-No. 21 University of Montana Western, 20-0. This is the Mountaineers first shutout since Oct. 27, 2012. Former running back,
Chris McGinnis-Parker led the way for the Mountaineers. McGinnis-Parker rushed for 182 yards on 27 carries. This is his second straight week of rushing over 180 yards. In Dillon, Mont., they closed out the regular season by defeating University of Montana Western, 42-20, on Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers were led by
Chris McGinnis-Parker, who rushed for 164 yards and setting the single season rushing record for EOU. For the season McGinnis-Parker rushed for 1,361 yards, surpassing Kevin Sampson who rushed for 1,305 in 2010.
Jace Billingsley's six receptions on the game, gave him 69 receptions for the season. He passed Phil Nyby for the most receptions in a single season.
Looking at Montana WesternMontana Western Bulldogs come into the game against the Mountaineers with an overall record of 2-5 and 2-4 in the Frontier Conference. Last week the Bulldogs were defeated by Southern Oregon, 31-6. The Bulldogs have lost two straight contests. Running Back, Sam Rutherford leads the Bulldogs offense. He has currently rushed for 587 yards on the season, which ranks 12th in the NAIA in total rushing yards. As a team, Montana Western is averaging 174.9 rushing yards per game. On the season, the Bulldogs have rushed for 1,224 yards. Montana Western is averaging 24.6 points per game and are allowing 29.6.
All-Time Against Montana WesternThe Mountaineers have a 15-7 record all-time against Montana Western.
InterceptionsByron Benson has four interceptions on the season. His four interceptions lead the Mountaineers and the Frontier Conference. He currently ranks eighth in the NAIA with his four interceptions. On the season EOU has picked off 12 passes on the season.
Frontier ConferenceEastern Oregon currently sits in third place in the Frontier Conference. They are a game behind Carroll College and two games behind, Frontier Conference Leader, Southern Oregon. EOU is tied with College of Idaho and Rocky Mountain with a 3-2 record in the conference action.
What's on DeckEastern Oregon returns home to Community Stadium on Oct. 25th when they host MSU-Northern at 1 p.m.
