SOU Downs EOU, 73-20

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Football team was defeated by Southern Oregon University, 73-20, on Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium. Eastern Oregon produced 430 yards of total offense but it was not enough.

Chris McGinnis-Parker led the way for EOU with 129 all-purpose yards (123 rushing on 14 carries and six receiving). McGinnis-Parker scored two of the three touchdowns for EOU. Bartlow finished the game 18-of-25 for 120 yards a touchdown.

EOU started the game out strong on the offensive and defensive side of the ball as the defense held to the Raiders to a three and out on its first position. The Mountaineers offense responded on its first position of the game.

Led by Zach Bartlow, EOU went 75 yards on ten plays to score the first touchdown of the game. Bartlow completed three passes on the drive to get the Mountaineers going. McGinnis-Parker capped off the run with a 37 yard touchdown run putting EOU up, 7-0.

SOU offense started to click in gear late in the first quarter and on its next position went 66 yards in a minute 39 seconds to tie the game at seven. After forcing EOU to punt, Southern Oregon scored in a minute and a half to take a 14-7 lead.

The Mountaineers answered right back and went 70 yards on two plays to tie the game at 14. Mohonri Bostrom took the first play from scrimmage and went 69 yards to Southern Oregon's one yard line before he was tackled. After a false started pushed EOU back, Bartlow found McGinnis-Parker for a six yard touchdown reception.

Southern Oregon offense continued to produce in the second quarter and the Mountaineers struggled to move the ball. The Raiders scored 27 unanswered points in the second quarter and racked up 265 yards of total offense in the quarter. Going into halftime EOU trailed 41-14.

The Raiders offense continued to move the ball in the third quarter as they scored on its first two positions of the game. It looked like SOU would score on its third position of the quarter but Ronnie Flowers intercepted Austin Dodge to give EOU the ball.

On the pursuing drive, EOU marched down the field. McGinnis-Parker started the drive with an 11 yard run. Bartlow then found Jace Billingsley for a 17 yard reception to get the offense clicking After McGinnis-Parker's 35 yard run, the Mountaineers found themselves at the SOU 32 yard line. EOU continued to move the ball and TJ Esekielu capped off the drive with a one yard touchdown run putting EOU down 52-20.

Southern Oregon scored on it's on its next position to extend its lead to 59-20. The EOU offense started to move the ball on its next position but Bartlow was intercepted by Julius Rucker, who took the pick to the end zone to extend the lead to 66-20. Southern Oregon was not done as they forced a fumble on the Mountaineers next position and scored two plays later to take a 73-20 lead.

EOU started driving again but each drive stalled and the Mountaineers were defeated 73-20.

EOU (0-4, 0-3 FC) return to Community Stadium next Saturday when they host Carroll College at 1 p.m.
